Colors of the Sun

It hasn’t been 4 months, but there’s a new song?!

I met someone and had really the best first impression ever. That kind of connection where you can’t believe a person like this exists who you can communicate with. I wrote the song shortly after, trying to capture that feeling. My plan with the song was to finish it with what happened next. I chose not to do that, and release it as is. There’s something so special about that first meeting, and I wanted to leave that just as the wonderful thing that it was. That’s why it’s so short.

What you are hearing is a demo, and I came back and thought, this shit sounds done. Instead of obsessively adding a million layers to make it sound “finished”, or “professional”, or whatever, I’m releasing it. Sometimes I want to make songs with 200 tracks and a million sounds, and sometimes I want to make something that just is its own thing. That’s what this is. Raw? Perhaps. Also shit yeah this one has a bass solo. And it wasn’t even planned. I was tracking bass, and got past the part where there are vocals, and I kept playing, and then boom, there it is.

I did all the artwork myself on “I Want to Work Less”, and let me tell you, it’s a pure joy and an honor to have my sister Tarah back at the helm for this one. I’m going to make a post soon showing my chicken scratch bullshit sketches that I send her, and then the actual art that comes back. Will I take a stab at doing art completely on my own again? Of course! I can’t be stopped!! This is Grand Commander!! I have to roam. However… look forward to more of Tarah’s art in the future.

And finally… THANK YOU for being here. Sharing this GC journey is one of the great joys of my life. You are appreciated.
